Pictures - Speaking - Spotlight

Uploaded by Serkan Çelik, Bilkent University (Turkey)

This video is an example of using the IWB for fostering interaction in a lower intermediate EFL class. In this part of the lesson, the teacher shows some pictures to the learners and asks them to make guesses on what they might represent. The native language of the learners is mainly Turkish. The IWB feature used in this clip is the spotlight tool. Learners are expected to generate conversations with the teacher on the content of the picture seen through the spotlight.

Teacher comment

It has always been hard to make EFL learners talk in the class and the IWB is an effective medium to encourage them to comment on the content provided with it. I like the spotlight very much because of its capacity to raise learners’ attention and curiosity.
