The Gingerbread Man: using the pen tool to label the body parts

Uploaded by Emily Hillier, Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK)

Description

This video clip took place in the context of learning vocabulary associated with the literature 'The Gingerbread Man' in Welsh. This activity required individual learners to use the IWB to label the body parts of the 'Gingerbread Man' by drawing lines and using the pen tool to correctly spell the vocabulary. The teacher placed the names of the different body parts below the image of the Gingerbread Man as a prompt to help with spelling.

Teacher comment

I used the IWB extract to show the children a picture of the 'Gingerbread Man.' They were able to clearly see the different body parts in order to label him correctly in Welsh.

This use of the IWB enabled them to all participate actively within the lesson and demonstrate their understanding by reading the words given on the IWB.  Children were keen to help and engage in the activity.  They drew their own lines using the line tool and then used the board pens to write the correct words.

The IWB helped by creating a visual stimulus and children were able to copy the words they needed.

Learner comments

It helps you to learn because it really helps you to learn things in Welsh and it does everything you want [it] to and I really enjoy using it.

I liked it because when you were doing the words you had to label them. It helped [because] it put the words on there to help you spell it.

I was so shocked to see it straight on the wall, [our teacher] using it straight off the play, us sitting on the carpet and watching it do everything.
