Weather: listening comprehension drag and drop

Uploaded by Julie Alexander, Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France)

These primary school EFL learners (9-10 years old) have just finished listening to an audio recording of a weather bulletin with visual support in the form of a map of the British Isles and weather symbols on the IWB. The teacher re-reads the bulletin in short sections, and calls individual learners to the board to drag the appropriate weather symbol to the correct city. In this example, the first learner selects an incorrect icon and the teacher invites the class to correct him.

Teacher comment

It's very complicated for him.  They have to listen they have to to do something to show that they have understood and so [it makes it easier] to show me […] they can repeat […] and it helps those who have not understood to understand now.

Learner comments

En tout cas moi j'ai surtout aimé d'aller sur le tableau et d'écrire aussi de déplacer les étiquettes et le bulletin météo
In any case, what I like best was going to the board to write and to move the labels, and the weather forecast

Parce que moi je suis excité de l'utiliser
Because I'm really keen to use [the interactive whiteboard]

Moi aussi, on est tous excités de répondre aux questions et d'aller sur le tableau interactif en calcul mental ou bien en tout, en anglais pour corriger et de déplacer les étiquettes
Me too, we're all really keen to answer questions and go to the interactive whiteboard for mental arithmetic or even for any subject, in English to correct and to move the labels.
