Linguistics English - Word Formation - AffixesUploaded by Sanderin van Hazebrouck, Pädagogische Hochschule Heidelberg (Germany)
This lesson was recorded in a university linguistics session. The trainer is preparing the learners for a linguistics exam. Since the learners are also pre-service primary and secondary school teachers, the trainer also wants to expose them to learning technologies like the IWB.
The learners revised the use of prefixes and suffixes to change a word stem. The drag and drop function in combination with an infinite cloner of the affixes encouraged the learners to swap the possibilities and led to a whole-class discussion.
Target language: English
Resource language: English
Native language of learners: German
Age range: 18+

Educational context: Higher Education
IWB Features: Drag & drop, Other
Teaching methods: Individual activity at IWB
Language area: Grammar

The possibility to add different prefixes and suffixes with the infinite cloner led to a discussion among the learners. This helps them to become aware of the different word formation processes.
